Garnet used for waterjet cutting

The color of garnet is primarily controlled by its composition. Pyralspites are either red, orange, purple, or even almost black. Grossular and andradite are yellowish brown to black or green. Uvarovite is bright green. Garnet crystals are beautiful because they are intensely colored and often have nicely developed crystal faces.
Garnet is a well-known mineral not only because it is so widespread, but mostly because of its deep red color and beautiful crystal faces which make it a semi-precious gemstone. Industrially garnet is mostly used as an abrasive because of its hardness and irregular fracture. It is also used for waterjet cutting.
Advantages of Waterjet Cutting Garnet

· Low Cost.
Our abrasive Waterjet-machining centre uses your existing DXF files. No costly dies, fixtures, or elaborate CNC programs required.

· No Minimum.
Low start-up costs allow for inexpensive, highly accurate production for quantities as
small as one item.

· Fast Turnaround.
Working from your drawings eliminates the need to wait for dies or fixtures.

· High Accuracy
Cuts are accurate within ± 0.125mm (0.005").

· (5Smooth, Flat cuts.
Water jet cuts are smooth, similar to a fine sandblasted finish. Flexible materials cut
with less taper than cuts made through die cutting.

· No Heat Build-up.
Materials like glass, rubber, and plastic will not melt during the cutting process. No melting, no heat affected areas, no structural changes.

· Cuts just about anything.
Waterjet machine is capable of cutting just about anything.

· Less Waste.
"Parts nesting" provides optimum use of sheet materials, reducing scrap.

· Environmental.
The Waterjet cutting process involves no chemicals, gases or noxious liquids. Abrasive Waterjet cutting uses garnet (a high grade sand) as the abrasive. This creates a very clean process, preferable to other methods of cutting in terms of environmental impact, eliminating disposal of by-products and waste water. There is no dust created when cutting stone with Waterjet technology, thus providing a safer work environment for those using Waterjet to cut stone inlays and countertops.
